What is an overdenture?

An implant-supported overdenture is a removable prosthesis that snaps onto dental implants for dramatically improved stability and comfort. Unlike conventional dentures that rest on the gums and rely on suction or adhesive, an overdenture is anchored securely by implants — eliminating slipping, clicking, and the constant worry of your denture moving while eating or speaking.

How many implants are needed?

The lower jaw typically requires 2–4 implants. The upper jaw requires a minimum of 4 implants due to softer bone density. Your doctor will determine the right number based on your 3D X-ray and bone quality assessment.

How does it work day-to-day?

You snap the overdenture onto the implant attachments each morning and remove it each evening for cleaning. The attachments (locators or a bar) hold it firmly in place during the day while still allowing easy removal for hygiene. Attachment inserts typically need replacement every 12–18 months with normal wear.
