Dental Bridge

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the natural teeth (or implants) on either side of the gap. The two anchoring teeth — called abutments — are fitted with crowns, and a false tooth (pontic) spans the space between them. The bridge is cemented permanently and functions just like natural teeth.

Why could this be beneficial for you?

  • Restores chewing and speaking function lost with a missing tooth

  • Prevents neighboring teeth from drifting or tilting into the gap

  • Maintains facial shape and prevents a sunken appearance over time

  • A fixed solution — no removal for cleaning like a partial denture

  • More affordable than implants when the adjacent teeth already need crowns

Will my teeth be sensitive after preparation?

Some mild temperature sensitivity is normal while wearing the temporary bridge. This typically resolves once the permanent bridge is placed. Your doctor will verify your bite is comfortable before you leave each appointment. If sensitivity worsens or persists beyond two weeks, call our office.

How do I care for my bridge?

Brush normally twice daily. Flossing under the pontic is essential — use a floss threader or interdental brush to clean beneath the bridge each day. Avoid biting hard foods (ice, hard candy, pens) directly on the bridge, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.
