Gum Disease Treatment
What is periodontal therapy?
Periodontal therapy (deep cleaning) treats gum disease by removing bacteria, plaque, and tartar from below the gumline — areas a regular cleaning cannot reach. It involves a procedure called scaling and root planing, which cleans the root surfaces
and helps the gum tissue reattach and heal.
Why could this be beneficial for you?
-
Stops the progression of gum disease before it causes tooth loss
-
Reduces pocket depths (the spaces between teeth and gums where bacteria hide)
-
Decreases inflammation, bleeding, and gum sensitivity
-
Gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and pregnancy complications — treating it benefits your whole body
-
Allows you to keep your natural teeth longer
Will it hurt?
Local anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Your gums may be tender and sensitive for a few days after, and some temporary sensitivity to cold is common. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the
recovery is.
